The Maple Leafs are trying to secure a playoff spot, but their odds are slim. They will need at least 12 wins in their final 16 games to have a chance at the NHL post-season. Their next challenge is to beat the defending Stanley Cup champion Bruins, a team that the Leafs are 0-4 against this season. Including 7-0 and 6-3 loses at the Air Canada Centre. However, the Maple Leafs may have some new life under new head coach Randy Carlyle.

The Maple Leafs are 1-0 under new coach Carlyle, as they beat the Canadians 3-1 in Montreal on Saturday night. The win should give some confidence to this Toronto team that is 2-7-1 in their last 10 games. The Leafs currently sit in 12th place in the Eastern Conference and are 5 points back of a playoff spot. If the Leafs do manage to get into the NHL playoffs their odds of winning the Stanley Cup are 60 to 1.
The Bruins have dominated the Leafs this season, but they are only 4-5-1 in their last 10 games. Boston is also coming off 2 straight losses, the most recent being a 4-3 set back in New York versus the Rangers. Tim Thomas should be back in net for the Bruins, but if the team continues to stumble they may call on the newly acquired Marty Turco later in the week.
Turco was signed to a 1-year contract by the club but needs to be placed on waivers. If he clears waivers he can join the team on Wednesday, March 7. He would then be available to play March 8 in Boston against the Buffalo Sabres.
However, do not count out the defending champs yet. They are sure to get things back on track as they have strong odds to hoist Lord Stanley again at 8 to 1.
Do the Leafs have new life and momentum with new coach Carlyle? Or are the Bruins going to continue their winning streak versus Toronto?
