The 2012 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship begins on December 26, 2011 with the gold medal game being played in Calgary on January 5, 2012.

This will be the 36th U20 Championship and it will be hosted in Calgary and Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. 

The 2011 World Junior Hockey Championship was played in Buffalo, NY with Russia taking home the gold medal after a 5-3 win over Canada. Canada led the game 3-0 after 2 periods, before the Russians scored 5 goals in the 3rd period to capture their first WJHC gold medal since 2003. It was the biggest comeback in WJHC history. The host team, USA, won the bronze medal with a 4-2 win over Sweden.
