Pick me! Pick me!
This years NHL All-Star Weekend starts with the first-ever All-Star draft. This new format has become a focus for the players, fans and sports bettors alike. Questions of who will go first overall and who will go last overall will be answered Friday night.
Time and Place:
8:00PM ET (Live on Versus, TSN, RDS)
Format and Rules:
- Captains, with the help of alternates will pick teams.
Eric Staal will do the picking for Team Staal with the help of Mike Green and Ryan Kesler.
Nicklas Lidstrom will do the picking for Team Lidstrom with the help of Patrick Kane and Martin St. Louis.
- The Draft will be 18 rounds, alternating picks back and forth.
- A coin flip decides who selects first in the Draft.
- Each team must draft three goaltenders by the end of the 10th round and five defensemen by the end of the 15th round.
Notable:
NHL vice-president Brendan Shanahan came up with the new format and originally envisioned a group of players being selected in the last round. But the players demanded that one man be left standing. The format dictates that it will be a forward.
2011 Mock Draft:
The Draft has been one of the most anticipated events in the entire All-Star weekend. This is an event that everyone can relate to. If you have ever played a game of street hockey or shinny, you probably had some sort of draft to divide everyone up. However, never has this format been used by any major sport. It will be very entertaining to watch,
It is also an event that will be entertaining to bet on. Bodog.ca has odds on Team Staal and Team Lidstrom, as well as odds on what player will get picked first and last! The coin flip will determine a lot, but we are going to give you our ‘Mock Draft’ version of the 2011 NHL All-Star game.
*Assuming luck will be on the side of hometown captain Eric Staal for the first pick.
